en.Wedoany.com Reported - Supergasbras has signed its first supply contract for BioGL certified under the international ISCC PLUS standard, aiming to expand its business in the sustainable energy solutions market. The agreement was signed in May with Ortobras, a company based in Rio Grande do Sul specializing in accessibility, mobility equipment, and residential and commercial elevators.
Under the contract, Ortobras will initially use BioGL equivalent to 5% of its annual liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) consumption, with this share expected to increase to 10% by 2027, in an effort to reduce carbon dioxide emissions associated with fossil fuel consumption.
Supergasbras is the first LPG distributor in Brazil to obtain ISCC PLUS certification. BioGL retains the same characteristics as traditional LPG and is integrated into the supply chain through a mass balance system, with its traceability certified under international standards.
Priscila Maziero, Gas and Sustainability Manager at Supergasbras, stated that BioGL has the same properties as LPG and is incorporated into the value chain via mass balance, with its traceability certified under the ISCC Plus international standard, which assures customers of its environmental attributes and carbon footprint reduction.
For Ortobras, adopting BioGL is part of its strategy centered on sustainability goals and ESG standards. Anderson Kühn, Facilities and EHS Manager at Ortobras, noted that introducing BioGL is central to the company's ongoing commitment to advancing sustainability objectives and strengthening ESG principles, adding that such initiatives help build a more efficient, responsible, and environmentally resilient industry.
Supergasbras began building its commercial supply system for BioGL in late 2024. The implementation of this solution involved several operational adjustments to meet ISCC PLUS certification requirements, which set sustainability and traceability standards for renewable product supply chains. Maziero emphasized that obtaining ISCC PLUS certification required process adjustments and a strengthened capacity for responsible innovation. The first contract is not only a commercial milestone but also opens a new frontier for sustainable growth in Brazil's LPG industry, with the company actively seeking new customers to incorporate fuels with environmental attributes into their operations.
According to the company, Brazil's renewable gas market is still in its early stages, but demand is expected to grow, driven by companies seeking to reduce emissions, meet climate targets, and fulfill commitments related to the ESG agenda.
