en.Wedoany.com Reported - Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) has awarded contracts worth over $604 million for the largest grid expansion project in the country's history. The project aims to connect electricity generated from the Dukhan Solar Power Project to the national grid.
Several local and international companies have secured contracts, including Voltage Engineering, Best & Betas Consortium, Larsen & Toubro, and LS Cable. Kahramaa stated that these projects are part of its strategic initiatives, primarily tasked with connecting the Dukhan Solar Power Project to the national grid in the western region.
The project scope encompasses engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) services for substation construction and upgrades, as well as the installation of underground cables and overhead lines. The newly signed contracts aim to support Kahramaa in ensuring the safe and efficient integration of renewable energy into the grid, enhancing the grid's capacity to absorb growing solar power generation, and improving overall network flexibility and performance.

Abdulla Bin Ali Al-Theyab, President of Kahramaa, stated that the western region grid expansion will positively impact service reliability and quality for customers, thereby meeting current and future electricity demands. He added that this step solidifies Qatar's regional position in adopting advanced clean energy solutions, while the company continues to build a more resilient and efficient grid to integrate renewable energy and ensure supply security.
