en.Wedoany.com Reported - Coal India Limited (CIL) has secured a contract worth INR 28.3 billion (USD 296 million) to develop a 600 MW solar photovoltaic project in the Jalaun Solar Park in Uttar Pradesh, northern India. The contract was awarded by the public utility Bundelkhand Saur Urja Limited (BSUL).

The project will be developed in two phases, each with a capacity of 300 MW. Once operational, the generated power will be supplied at a fixed tariff of INR 2.73/kWh (USD 0.02/kWh). Before construction begins, CIL must fulfill the conditions of the Letter of Award and sign a Power Purchase Agreement, after which an 18-month construction period will commence.
The project is part of the larger Jalaun Ultra Mega Renewable Energy Power Park, located in Orai, Uttar Pradesh, with a planned total solar capacity of 1,200 MW. The park is being developed by BSUL, a joint venture between state-owned hydropower company NHPC and the Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA). According to project plans, once fully operational, the mega park is expected to generate approximately 2,400 GWh of electricity annually.
This award marks a significant step for CIL in diversifying into the renewable energy sector beyond its core coal business. In April 2026, CIL awarded an engineering, procurement, and construction contract to Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy (SWREL) for an 875 MW sub-project within the 2 GW Pugal Solar Park in Rajasthan, valued at approximately INR 34.9 billion (USD 376.8 million). In March of the same year, the company also approved a corporate guarantee of INR 13.6 billion (USD 144 million) for its subsidiary CIL Rajasthan Akshay Urja Limited (CRAUL) to support debt financing for the development of an 875 MW solar photovoltaic project in Rajasthan.
