China SDIC Yangpu Port accelerates construction of 100,000-tonne grain and oil berths

Currently, the construction of the 100,000-tonne public grain and oil berth project under SDIC Yangpu Port Co., Ltd. (referred to as "SDIC Yangpu Port"), a subsidiary of SDIC Communications Holding Co., Ltd., is accelerating. Upon completion, the project will double operational efficiency, significantly increase throughput, attract more grain and oil enterprises to cluster and settle, and actively support the industrial development of the Hainan Free Trade Port.

The accelerated progress of the SDIC Yangpu Port 100,000-tonne public grain and oil berth project is driving industrial clustering.

At present, the installation of 331 underwater steel pipe piles for the project has been firmly rooted in the sea, completed more than 10 days ahead of the construction schedule, saving valuable time for subsequent work. The project has fully transitioned to the "above-water main structure" construction phase, with operations such as concrete pouring for pile caps and crossbeams proceeding in an orderly manner, ensuring efficient construction progress.

Compared to traditional general-purpose terminals, the biggest highlight of this specialized grain and oil terminal is the integration of two belt conveyors, functioning like two "highways" for grain transport. Traditional terminals rely on grab unloading and vehicle transfer, with a 50,000-tonne grain vessel typically taking three to five days to load and unload. In contrast, after completion, this terminal can directly unload grain onto the conveyors via specialized equipment, with a single conveyor handling 1,500 tonnes of grain per hour, and two conveyors handling 3,000 tonnes. A full 50,000-tonne cargo can be received, transferred, and delivered to the rear storage silos or grain and oil processing enterprises within a single day, exponentially improving operational efficiency. The loading and unloading process is more modernized, with grain transported in a fully enclosed system, significantly reducing exposure time and better preserving grain quality. The project is also concurrently building a production dispatch center with a total area of 15,000 square meters, equipped with an intelligent "brain." In the future, the entire process—from vessel berthing, unloading, and transport to rear warehousing and grain and oil processing enterprises—can be automated and visually monitored.

The accelerated construction of the SDIC Yangpu Port 100,000-tonne public grain and oil terminal project is closely linked to the growing demand for grain imports in the Yangpu area. Previously, the Yangpu area had only four major grain and oil enterprises, with an annual grain import volume of approximately 3 to 4 million tonnes, and the existing port capacity was largely sufficient to meet demand. However, with the advancement of the Hainan Free Trade Port's customs closure operations, the Yangpu area is building a grain and oil processing industry cluster. There are now over ten existing and planned grain and oil processing enterprises, nearly doubling the demand for grain imports. The original port's loading, unloading, and transport capacity is becoming saturated, making it urgent to accelerate the terminal project.

The project is expected to complete all main structures by the end of this year. After it is put into operation in early 2027, it will provide an annual throughput guarantee of 4.5 million tonnes, significantly enhancing its capacity for loading, unloading, transshipment, and storage of bulk commodities such as grain and vegetable oil. This will provide solid support for building a grain and oil processing industry cluster and further strengthen the resilience and security level of the regional grain supply chain. This project is not only a core initiative for SDIC Yangpu Port to serve the industrial development needs of the Hainan Free Trade Port but will also provide key support for the Yangpu area to become an international shipping hub facing the Pacific and Indian Oceans, helping to build the Hainan Free Trade Port into a model of higher-level opening-up and integrated development of port, industry, and city.
