en.Wedoany.com Reported - On July 3, IBeet, Tokyu Land, and Akaysha Energy Japan commenced construction of a 20MW/82MWh battery energy storage project in Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan. Located in the Seta area of Iizuka City, the energy storage project will be implemented by Iizuka Seta Energy Storage LLC, jointly held by the three companies.

Akaysha Energy will provide technical and commissioning support for the energy storage project, leveraging its experience from large-scale battery storage platforms in Australia to participate in project execution. Once completed, the project will serve as a balancing power source for the Kyushu Island grid, helping to manage fluctuations in renewable energy output and enhancing the operational flexibility of the regional grid.

The energy storage project has received relevant subsidy support from Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, and is part of Japan's initiative to expand renewable energy access and grid-side storage capacity. Tokyu Land previously stated that the consortium it leads will invest in six grid-scale energy storage projects in Japan, with a combined capacity of 174MW and a total investment of approximately 30 billion yen. Following the launch of the 20MW energy storage project in Fukuoka Prefecture, it will become one of the specific implementation milestones within this portfolio, with subsequent progress depending on equipment delivery, civil construction, and grid connection commissioning.
