en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Rand Water Foundation has donated and installed four fully equipped boreholes in the Vezubuhle, Rhennosfontein Farms, and Gemsbok communities in the Thembisile Hani Local Municipality of Mpumalanga Province, South Africa.
The Foundation, the social development arm of the water utility Rand Water, is tasked with promoting sustainable water, sanitation, and hygiene services within Rand Water's supply area, enhancing quality of life, promoting environmental sustainability, and supporting long-term community development through strategic partnerships and community-focused interventions.
At the request of the Mpumalanga Provincial Department of Water and Sanitation, the Foundation invested R2.09 million to assist these communities that have long faced water supply challenges.
The project provided a sustainable water source for approximately 1,687 beneficiaries, including students at a local school. Specific implementation included drilling and equipping four boreholes with filtration and purification systems, installing ten public taps, six 10,000-liter water storage tanks, six steel tank stands, and associated manholes and related water infrastructure.
The Rand Water Foundation stated that the project has significantly alleviated the burden on residents, many of whom previously had to travel long distances to fetch water for drinking, cooking, washing, and other household needs. The new infrastructure has improved community access to clean and safe water, enhancing health, dignity, and overall quality of life.
In addition to strengthening water security, the project created 50 temporary jobs for local community members during the construction and installation phases, contributing to local economic development.
The Rand Water Foundation continues to invest in sustainable water, sanitation, and hygiene projects to improve the quality of life for vulnerable communities within its supply area, maintaining collaboration with the government, municipalities, and communities.
