Marposs provides precision measurement, inspection, and process control solutions for industrial sectors including automotive engines, machine tools, refrigeration compressors, 3C (Computer, Communication, Consumer Electronics), and semiconductors. Its product range spans from individual measurement instruments to turnkey measuring machines and fully automated production lines, achieving measurement accuracy up to 0.001 mm.
Founded by Mario Possati in Bologna, Italy, in 1952, the company established its first foreign subsidiary in Germany in 1962, later entering the U.S. and Japanese markets. Currently, Marposs operates in 34 countries and regions, employs approximately 3,200 people globally, and invests 8% of its revenue in R&D.
Marposs has advanced its localization strategy in China. In 2008, the Nanjing plant was established in the Jiangning Binjiang Economic Development Zone, with Phase I commencing production in 2009, Phase II expansion in 2013, and further capacity increases in 2019, all operating under the same quality standards as its Italian headquarters. Additionally, Sanmenxia Zhongyuan Precision Co., Ltd. was founded in 1995 and joined the Marposs Group in 2016, specializing in active measurement technology for grinding processes. Its products cover over 100 varieties across 10 series, serving industries such as machine tools, automotive, and bearings.
Francesco Possati, President of the Marposs Group and a third-generation leader of the Possati family, worked at Marposs China's Nanjing plant from 2013 to 2014, giving him a deep understanding of the Chinese market. He stated that since entering the Chinese market, the company has been committed to local integration, developing and optimizing products based on customer needs. Currently, Marposs employs approximately 700 people in China, operates two high-tech enterprise manufacturing centers, five sales offices, and three solution centers, with Greater China revenue accounting for over 20% of global sales.
