en.Wedoany.com Reported - The restoration of Hangar B, the iconic structure at the Tillamook Air Museum in Oregon, USA, is scheduled to begin in early August 2026 to repair severe structural damage caused by a winter storm in December 2025. The hangar has remained closed since the storm.

Hangar B, a wooden airship hangar built in 1942, is one of the largest wooden structures in the world. On December 16, 2025, strong winds tore off approximately 200 feet long and 30 feet wide roof panels on the southeast end of the hangar, creating a massive opening in the transition area between the roof and the vertical wall. Since then, rainwater has been pouring directly into the hangar during every rainfall.

According to museum director Christian Gurling, the removal of the damaged roof will begin in early August, with final coordination with external partners currently underway. The entire restoration project is expected to take approximately 30 days. Preliminary repair cost estimates range from $2.5 million to $6.5 million. Due to the hangar's massive size, age, and the need to preserve its historical appearance, the restoration faces significant technical challenges.

The restoration is being carried out in collaboration between the Port of Tillamook and the Friends of Tillamook Air Museum. Notably, the Port of Tillamook Board of Commissioners voted 4 to 1 in May 2026 not to provide funding for the hangar's repair. Port Commission Chair Jack Mulder subsequently stated to the museum that the Port had not abandoned Hangar B or its future. Currently, supporters are actively raising restoration funds through various channels.
