en.Wedoany.com Reported - India has delivered 500 tons of rice and 8,500 tons of cement to Seychelles, with the supplies handed over during the Indian Prime Minister's state visit, under the framework of India's Food Security Partnership Program. A spokesperson for the Indian Ministry of External Affairs stated that this assistance aims to support Seychelles' current development in a timely and needs-based manner, while strengthening India's support for the Global South and deepening bilateral relations.

In conjunction with this assistance, the Government of Seychelles signed an umbrella loan agreement with the Export-Import Bank of India, establishing a financing framework. Under this arrangement, Seychelles can access Indian credit for approved projects, designed to provide concessional financing for infrastructure and development priorities identified by Seychellois authorities. Officials view this mechanism as a means to promote project-level cooperation rather than conditional aid.
In the field of legal and security cooperation, the two sides signed an extradition treaty to strengthen joint efforts against transnational crime. To enhance maritime and internal security capabilities, India donated a fast patrol boat, 10 multi-purpose vehicles, and five Laser Radial class boats to the Seychelles Defence Forces. This defense equipment represents a concrete action in India's role as a net security provider in the Indian Ocean region. India reiterated that its development partnership model focuses on grants, concessional financing, capacity building, and humanitarian assistance based on local priorities rather than conditionalities. The comprehensive package of material aid, credit lines, and security cooperation is seen as a way to foster sustained bilateral engagement and respond to Seychelles' development and security needs. Officials stated that these collaborations aim to support the island nation's resilience and regional connectivity.
