en.Wedoany.com Reported - Pacific Cement plans to invest $15.6 million to upgrade its plant in Lami, Fiji, including the construction of a new cement mill, two new silos, and a packaging plant.

The project sparked discussion during the first public consultation on the environmental impact assessment in Lami. Some residents expressed concerns about potential environmental issues such as clinker dust and water quality. Company CEO Josua Satavu stated that the new mill will be more environmentally friendly and is expected to begin operations in October 2027. He also noted that the company will mitigate issues "to the extent it can," and that the mill upgrade itself will address many of the environmental concerns raised.

According to an initial survey, approximately 77% of residents agreed with the development project. The proposed mill will have a full capacity of 1,000 tons per hour. Local media reported the above information.
