en.Wedoany.com Reported - Tajikistan President Emomali Rahmon recently held talks with representatives from several Chinese metallurgical enterprises, focusing on cooperation in steel, building materials, and modern industrial technologies, indicating that bilateral industrial collaboration is shifting from resource development to manufacturing upgrading.
The meeting took place in the Bobojon Ghafurov District of Tajikistan's Sughd Region. Key discussions centered on the development of ferrous metallurgy and building materials such as cement, lime, and glass, as well as the introduction of modern manufacturing technologies to enhance local industrial production levels. The Tajik side believes that such cooperation is expected to expand industrial exports, create job opportunities, and strengthen manufacturing competitiveness.

In recent years, China has become Tajikistan's largest source of investment, largest trading partner, and largest foreign investor in the industrial sector. Data shows that in 2025, China's direct investment in Tajikistan reached $294.1 million, accounting for 57.7% of Tajikistan's total foreign direct investment for the year; bilateral trade volume during the same period was approximately $4.3 billion. In the first quarter of 2026, bilateral trade exceeded $790 million, a year-on-year increase of over 50%. Currently, Chinese enterprises are widely involved in Tajikistan's local mining, metallurgy, cement, building materials, transportation infrastructure, and manufacturing sectors.
During Rahmon's visit to China in May 2026, the two sides signed multiple industrial cooperation agreements, focusing on promoting the introduction of modern technologies, deep processing of mineral products, and value-added utilization of resources. At the same time, the two countries also signed the "Treaty on Permanent Good-Neighborliness, Friendship, and Cooperation," further deepening collaboration in industries, energy, and transportation logistics. As Tajikistan places greater emphasis on attracting manufacturing investment, China-Tajikistan cooperation is gradually extending to technology transfer, industrial upgrading, and local manufacturing, with Chinese enterprises expected to play an increasingly significant role in the regional industrial chain layout.
