en.Wedoany.com Reported - Berg Propulsion, based in Hönö, Sweden, has signed a contract with China's Jiangsu Dajin Heavy Industry to supply complete propulsion systems for six multi-purpose dry cargo vessels currently under construction.

Berg Propulsion will provide a complete propulsion package for six multi-purpose dry cargo vessels being built for Carisbrooke Shipping

These six 7,000 DWT vessels are ordered by UK-based shipowner and operator Carisbrooke Shipping and designed by Groot Ship Design of the Netherlands. The vessels have an overall length of 110 meters, a beam of 15.45 meters, and a design draft of 6.5 meters, with delivery scheduled from the third quarter of 2027 to the first quarter of 2029. This vessel design is an upgraded version based on the Groot 6600 XL series, increasing deadweight to over 7,000 tons while maintaining a gross tonnage below 5,000.

Each vessel's equipment will include the Berg MPP950 main propulsion system, featuring a gearbox, shaft generator, MPC800M remote control system, and Dynamic Drive adaptive thrust and fuel optimization software. This system calculates the optimal combination of engine speed and propeller blade angle for various operating conditions and power modes to maximize fuel efficiency.

This collaboration builds on the existing partnership between Berg Propulsion and Jiangsu Dajin. In 2024 and 2025, Berg Propulsion was named the shipyard's Best Supplier of the Year, followed by the signing of an extended cooperation agreement. As one of the shipyard's main propulsion partners, Berg has supplied propulsion systems for approximately 106 vessels built by Jiangsu Dajin since mid-2021.

Mattias Hansson, Global Senior Sales Manager at Berg Propulsion, stated that the propulsion solution selected for these 7,000 DWT vessels has been proven and achieved significant success on 5,200 DWT and 5,900 DWT vessels previously delivered by the same shipyard. Other ongoing projects include 7,350 DWT multi-purpose vessels and 1,200 TEU container ships. Hansson believes this new contract is a strong recognition from the customer—a company known for quality service—of the energy efficiency, reliability, and safety of Berg Propulsion's products and overall solution portfolio, as well as trust in Berg's global service and support.

Wu Zhong, Deputy General Manager of Jiangsu Dajin Heavy Industry, noted that the shipyard is committed to building next-generation energy-efficient vessels to reduce emissions and fuel costs while meeting international environmental standards. In this process, Berg Propulsion's advanced control systems and optimized propeller design align with the needs of its forward-looking newbuild projects.

William Zhiqing, Regional Sales Manager (East) at Berg Propulsion, added that efficiency, reliability, safety, and environmental impact were central to all discussions. The power-speed performance of the vessels is critical and must consistently meet design specifications and owner expectations. The main engine is key to reducing fuel consumption, noise, and vibration, but propeller design and control are equally important. What truly makes a difference is the optimal matching between the main engine and the propulsion system in an integrated solution.

Other ongoing supply contracts for Berg Propulsion in China cover propulsion equipment for roll-on/roll-off vessels, multi-purpose vessels, cement carriers, offshore vessels, tugs, container ships, chemical and product tankers, and dynamic positioning vessels. Some projects also involve electrical system integration and propulsion solutions coordinated with wind-assisted ship propulsion.
