en.Wedoany.com Reported - CONSOL Innovations LLC, a subsidiary of Core Natural Resources, has been selected by the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Critical Minerals and Energy Innovation to receive millions of dollars in funding to extract rare earth elements and other critical materials from coal waste tailings at a Pennsylvania mining complex. The company plans to use the funding to build a pilot facility.

Core Chairman and CEO Jimmy Brock stated that the company appreciates the Trump administration's leadership and support in unlocking the full potential of U.S. coal resources and looks forward to collaborating with the DOE to explore the next steps in rare earth element and critical mineral extraction. He hopes this effort will demonstrate that coal remains an indispensable material for daily life, both now and in the future.

Dan Connell, President of Core's Innovation business unit, said the innovation team is excited to take a significant step forward in understanding the opportunities for recovering critical materials from mining byproducts and looks forward to further enhancing coal's value proposition through this project.

The award is granted under the DOE's "Mine and Metal Capacity Expansion—Pilot Critical Mineral and Material Recovery from Byproducts at Domestic Industrial Facilities" funding opportunity, subject to the company completing the negotiation process with the DOE. The funding amount will be officially announced at that time.
