en.Wedoany.com Reported - The "Intelligent Technology Research and Engineering Demonstration of Directional Drilling in Broken and Soft Coal Seams of Wuhai Mining Area" project by China Wuhai Energy Tianrong Company recently passed group acceptance. The relevant technological achievements effectively address the long-standing industry challenges of directional drilling in broken and soft coal seams, providing technical support for safe and efficient production in the mining area.

Coal seams in the Wuhai mining area generally exhibit characteristics of being "broken, soft, and low-permeability." Conventional hydraulic directional drilling technology struggles to form boreholes under such geological conditions, with low trajectory control accuracy. Meanwhile, traditional construction methods lack real-time perception of formation properties, relying on single monitoring parameters and lagging data analysis, leading to low efficiency and high risks in gas control engineering.

To address these issues, the project team systematically conducted research on pneumatic directional drilling technology in broken and soft coal seams, overcoming multiple key technologies such as precise identification of coal-rock interfaces using azimuth gamma while drilling, multi-parameter monitoring and early warning while drilling, automated drilling rigs and auxiliary equipment, and a series of matching drilling tools. These technological achievements significantly improved the accuracy of directional borehole trajectory control, borehole completion rate, and coal seam intersection rate, forming a complete intelligent solution.

The project results were demonstrated on a large scale at Luotuoshan Coal Mine. During construction, the maximum borehole depth reached 651 meters, setting a new record for underground pneumatic directional drilling depth in Chinese coal mines. The comprehensive borehole completion rate reached 87.5%, with an average monthly rig efficiency of 2,060 meters. These indicators significantly improved gas extraction efficiency in broken and soft coal seams, effectively reduced the risk of gas disasters, and enhanced the economic benefits and management level of drilling operations. This technical model can serve as a replicable and scalable reference solution for other Chinese mining areas with similar geological conditions.
