en.Wedoany.com Reported - Victoria’s Level Crossing Removal Project has recently completed the removal of its 92nd crossing, this time at Ferris Road in Melbourne’s western suburbs.

The removal of the Ferris Road level crossing has cleared the way for the new Ferris Road Bridge in Melton, which sits above the old railway line. With the crossing removed, the 16,000 vehicles that use it daily will no longer have to wait 28 minutes for the boom gates to lower during the morning peak.
During construction, crews worked around the clock for three weeks to complete the road bridge, as well as a separated pedestrian and cycling path above the railway line.
The new, modern, accessible Melton Station is scheduled to open in September. At that time, longer nine-car VLocity trains will be able to stop at Melton Station a year early, increasing peak service capacity by 50% from next year.

The new transport hub will improve connections between trains, buses, and parking, with a new station underpass providing a new crossing point over the railway line. The station is already prepared for the planned electrification of the Melton Line, allowing two of its platforms to be used by future Metro services. These electric trains will be stabled at a stabling yard in Cobblebank, currently under construction east of the station.
Melton will see two more level crossings removed this year, at Coburns Road and Exford Road. The Victorian Government aims to remove a total of 110 level crossings by 2032.
