en.Wedoany.com Reported - Air Arabia has launched a direct flight route between Sharjah and Rome, operating five times a week using Airbus A320neo aircraft, making Rome the airline's second destination in Italy.
The new route connects Sharjah International Airport with Rome Fiumicino Airport, with five weekly flights. Adel Al Ali, Group Chief Executive Officer of Air Arabia, stated that Italy remains an important market, and the Rome destination strengthens the company's presence in the country while offering customers more choices.
To mark the launch of the route, ceremonies were held at both Sharjah and Rome airports, attended by representatives from Air Arabia, Sharjah Airport Authority, the Italian Consulate, and Rome Fiumicino Airport.
The Rome route expands Air Arabia's European network from Sharjah to ten destinations: Milan Bergamo, Munich, Vienna, Athens, Prague, Krakow, Warsaw Chopin, Warsaw Modlin, London Gatwick, and Rome.
Ali Salim Al Midfa, Chairman of Sharjah Airport Authority, noted that the launch reflects growing demand for travel to Europe, adding one of the most important tourism and business destinations on the continent to Sharjah Airport's network.
Ivan Bassato, Chief Aviation Officer of Rome Fiumicino Airport, stated that the new route expands connections between Italy and the Middle East. Sharjah, the third-largest city in the United Arab Emirates and part of the country's largest metropolitan area, benefits from Air Arabia's new route, which helps strengthen connectivity in Rome's key market. This market handled over 2 million passengers in 2025, a 5% increase compared to 2024.
