en.Wedoany.com Reported - Firebird Metals Ltd (ASX:FRB, OTC:FRBMF, FRA:7Y2) has received an initial A$1 million payment from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) after completing the first milestone of its Australian demonstration plant ahead of schedule and under budget.

This payment is part of the A$2 million grant awarded under ARENA's Battery Breakthrough Initiative. The remaining A$1 million is expected to be received as Firebird achieves subsequent assembly and commissioning milestones.

Firebird has secured a site for the demonstration plant in Osborne Park, Perth, and has ordered all major equipment, while completing the required risk management and operational planning. Work on site construction and the second project milestone is ongoing.

The Australian demonstration plant aims to be the world's first fully integrated processing facility outside of China, from manganese to cathode active material. Firebird plans to use the facility to demonstrate its patented processing technology, optimize manufacturing processes, produce certification samples for potential customers, and generate operational data needed to support future commercial-scale deployment.

All key equipment orders have been placed, and equipment from China has been independently inspected by an Australian electrical contractor and confirmed to comply with applicable local standards. Firebird expects to relocate to the Osborne Park facility next month, followed by equipment delivery, installation, and commissioning.

CEO Ron Mitchell said this milestone payment reflects the government's confidence in Firebird's technology and execution capabilities. Mitchell stated that the Australian Demonstration Plant (ADP) is a critical step in Firebird's commercialization strategy, providing an integrated demonstration platform to validate patented processing technology, optimize manufacturing processes, produce customer certification materials, and generate operational data needed to support future commercial-scale deployment.

Engagement with the global battery supply chain is accelerating, and the company is in discussions with international battery manufacturers, automotive original equipment manufacturers, and other downstream participants. The plant will process manganese concentrate into high-purity manganese sulfate monohydrate and downstream cathode materials for lithium iron phosphate manganese and lithium-rich manganese-based battery chemistries.

The project is supported by Firebird's existing cash reserves, which will be matched with ARENA's funding. The grant does not confer any rights to ARENA over the company's current or future intellectual property.

Firebird is an Australian battery materials technology company developing manganese-based lithium-ion battery materials for the electric vehicle and energy storage markets. Its patented and exclusively licensed technology aims to convert manganese concentrate directly into cathode active material through a single integrated processing line, targeting reduced production costs and energy consumption. In addition to its battery technology platform, Firebird holds 234 million tonnes of manganese resources in Western Australia, including the Oakover and Hill 616 projects.
