en.Wedoany.com Reported - JetBlue has decided to adjust its route from Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) to Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS) to seasonal operations. The airline originally planned to operate this route year-round, but according to information disclosed on its official website, the last departure from Boston in 2026 is scheduled for October 23, with the final return flight to the U.S. operating on October 24, the last day of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Northern Hemisphere summer aviation season. The following day, JetBlue will transition to its winter schedule. The first departure in 2027 is planned for March 27 from BOS, with the first return flight on March 28, marking the start of the Northern Hemisphere summer aviation season.

The adjustment of this route stems from its operational performance. JetBlue began flying to Amsterdam in August 2023, initially including daily flights from John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), but that service ended in October 2025. The route from BOS launched in September 2023, was suspended during the 2024/2025 winter season, then resumed year-round service, but will now revert to seasonal mode. Data from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) shows that between August 2023 and April 2026, JetBlue transported a total of 325,096 passengers on routes to and from AMS, with 166,898 passengers on the JFK route and 158,198 on the BOS route. In the 12 months ending April 2026, the BOS route carried 73,213 passengers, with a load factor of 77.3%.

Behind the seasonal operations decision lies clear demand variation. In January 2026, the route barely filled six out of ten seats (61.3%), the worst monthly performance among all JetBlue's European routes from its two hubs at BOS and JFK, with only half of the seats occupied on flights departing from the U.S. (51.8%). In contrast, the load factor reached 83.8% in August 2025, though still below the airline's average for European routes from BOS (84.2%) and JFK (85.0%) during the peak summer month. JetBlue will continue to deploy the 138-seat Airbus A321LR on this route, featuring 24 Mint seats, 24 Even More Space seats, and 90 Core seats. The maximum block time during summer operations is 8 hours and 11 minutes; if operations continued in winter, the block time would increase to nearly 8.5 hours due to stronger headwinds.

The trend of transatlantic routes shifting to seasonal operations is expanding. For the remainder of 2026, the route's schedule remains unchanged. Entering winter, JetBlue plans to operate four European routes: BOS to London Heathrow Airport (LHR) and Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG), both daily; and JFK to LHR (twice daily) and CDG (once daily). This will result in a total of five daily flights, the lowest level since the COVID-19 pandemic in 2022, 17% lower than both November 2024 and November 2025, and a quarter lower than the same month in 2023—when JetBlue operated seven routes, including BOS and JFK to AMS, as well as BOS and JFK to the now-discontinued London Gatwick Airport (LGW).
