(hereinafter referred to as "Hunan Yuneng"), a leading lithium iron phosphate producer, announced that to seize market development opportunities and deepen its integrated development strategy, it plans to invest in the Guizhou Yuneng (Weng'an) integrated mining-chemical new energy battery material recycling industrial project in Weng'an County, Qiannan Buyi and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, Guizhou Province. The total investment is approximately 24 billion yuan, with funds sourced from its own capital and self-raised funds.
According to the announcement, the project is expected to have a construction period of 5 years and includes 800,000 tons of lithium iron phosphate, 1 million tons of iron phosphate, and upstream industrial chain projects, involving phosphorus sources (phosphate mining, beneficiation, phosphorus chemical processing, and sulfuric acid required for phosphoric acid production), iron sources (pyrite, etc.), lithium carbonate processing, and lithium battery recycling. Hunan Yuneng plans to invest 5 billion to 8 billion yuan within 18 months after the project officially starts construction, with subsequent implementation pace adjusted based on future market demand and other conditions.
Currently, with the rapid development of the global new energy industry, the market demand for lithium battery cathode materials continues to grow. Leveraging its outstanding advantages in safety, cycle life, and cost, lithium iron phosphate has become the most dominant technical route for global lithium batteries. According to statistics from the Gaogong Industry Research Lithium Battery Research Institute, global lithium iron phosphate shipments reached 3.92 million tons in 2025, with a compound annual growth rate of 51.7% from 2022 to 2025, maintaining a relatively high growth trend.
"The company's phosphate cathode material shipments have ranked first globally for six consecutive years since 2020," stated Hunan Yuneng. The company's existing production capacity is fully utilized, maintaining a consistently high capacity utilization rate. This project investment will help proactively build an integrated industrial ecosystem of "resources—precursors—cathode materials—recycling and recovery," effectively enhance resource security capabilities, meet growing market demand, consolidate its leading position, and strengthen the company's long-term competitiveness.
