This loan represents the first green financing obtained for the terminal project and is part of a total €100 million infrastructure upgrade investment plan aimed at accelerating the transition to more sustainable operations.
Under the agreement, the funds will be used to advance a comprehensive project that replaces traditional fuel-powered equipment and machinery with electric alternatives, and develops the infrastructure needed to support electric operations within the terminal. The investment plan is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by over 6,000 tons annually, making it one of the most significant decarbonization projects in the port industry of the Black Sea region.
The maritime and port industry is currently facing increasing pressure from growing carbon footprints, with stricter European environmental standards and rising investments in clean energy technologies and electric equipment.
