Wedoany.com Report-May 26, TotalEnergies SE has inaugurated Europe’s largest solar power plant cluster in Seville, Spain. The project, comprising five solar installations, has a combined capacity of 263 megawatts (MW). According to the company, the cluster is expected to generate 515 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of electricity annually, providing power to more than 150,000 households across Spain.

The cluster consists of five solar projects with a total installed capacity of 263 MW.

The facility will help reduce environmental impact by avoiding approximately 245,000 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions each year. A significant portion of the electricity produced will be supplied under long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs), while the rest will be offered on Spain’s wholesale electricity market.

The project features 400,000 bifacial solar panels equipped with tracking systems. TotalEnergies highlighted that the solar field has been recognized as a strategic priority by the Junta de Andalucía and has contributed to economic development in the region. The initiative involves 14 partner companies, with more than half based in Seville, and has created 800 direct and indirect employment opportunities.

Olivier Jouny, Senior Vice President for Renewables at TotalEnergies, said: “We warmly thank the Spanish authorities at both the regional and national levels for supporting this solar project that is contributing to Spain's ambition of 80 percent of renewables in its mix by 2030.” He added: “With our 1,700 employees in Spain, we are building a competitive Integrated Power portfolio that combines renewables and flexible gas-fired power plants to deliver clean firm power to our customers. We are proud to be the 4th largest provider of electricity, gas, and related services in Spain, where we have more than 2 million residential and professional customers.”

TotalEnergies noted that it is working to create a balanced energy portfolio, combining renewable sources with flexible backup systems to ensure reliability and efficiency. By the end of March 2025, the company aims to have 28 GW of installed gross renewable electricity generation capacity. Its goal is to reach 35 GW by the end of 2025 and surpass 100 terawatt-hours (TWh) of net electricity production by 2030.

This latest development supports Spain’s renewable energy strategy and aligns with TotalEnergies’ broader commitment to expanding clean energy infrastructure globally. The Seville project marks a major step in the company’s efforts to provide sustainable and dependable energy solutions while supporting local economies and employment.
