Eligible orders can be shipped to campus lockers for free. Amazon did not disclose the specific number of new locations added, the previous total before the expansion, or the list of universities involved.

Viraj Chatterjee, Amazon's vice president of transportation, stated that college students have tight schedules, and package pickup should fit into their routines rather than requiring students to accommodate delivery times. By placing lockers on college campuses, secure package retrieval is embedded directly into campus life.

Students can search for nearby lockers by address or ZIP code, add them to their Amazon address book, and select them as a delivery location at checkout; Amazon provides operating hours and directions for each pickup point. Once an order arrives, customers receive an email with locker-opening instructions. Depending on the pickup location, students can use a six-digit pickup code, a barcode, or retrieve packages through the Amazon Shopping app.

Packages remain in lockers for three calendar days; if not retrieved by then, Amazon automatically returns the package and issues a refund. Students can also forward delivery notifications and pickup instructions to others to pick up packages on their behalf.

Not all orders are eligible for locker delivery. According to the company, orders generally must weigh less than 10 pounds, measure smaller than 16 inches × 12 inches × 14 inches, and be sold or delivered by Amazon.

Campus lockers are part of Amazon's network of more than 25,000 package pickup points across the United States. These pickup points offer customers an alternative to having packages left outside their homes, apartments, or dormitory doors; at the time of ordering, customers can only select lockers that have available capacity.
