Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Thermal Systems Launches TEU Series Electric Transport Refrigeration Units in Europe on August 25
en.Wedoany.com Reported - On August 25, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Thermal Systems, Ltd. (MHI Thermal Systems), a part of the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Group (MHI), announced that it has begun sales of the TEU Series fully electric-driven transport refrigeration units in Europe, a new product line under its Preciso brand. Sales operations are handled by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Thermal Transport Europe GmbH (MTTE), the MHI Group's European sales office based in Osnabrück, Germany.

Europe is advancing decarbonization and air quality improvement measures, with logistics transport in urban areas rapidly shifting toward low-environmental-impact vehicles. The freight industry has already promoted electric vehicles in multiple countries and cities, and adoption is expected to rise further in the future. As electrification accelerates, transport refrigeration units (TRUs) for the European market must not only deliver high environmental performance but also adapt to the diverse battery layouts and installation constraints found in electric vehicles. At the same time, refrigeration units must balance overall vehicle efficiency to achieve high energy savings and support a wide range of temperature settings to enhance transport quality and operational efficiency.
To meet these demands, MHI Thermal Systems has adopted a modular structure for the first time in the TEU Series, achieving compactness and lightweight design. The main components of the refrigeration unit—the condenser, evaporator, and compressor—are separated into compact modules that are as small as possible, enabling installation on electric vehicles with various mounting constraints without interfering with vehicle configuration. Compared with the conventional TU Series auxiliary-engine trailer units (powered by a dedicated generator set independent of the vehicle engine), the TEU Series main unit reduces volume by approximately 30%, required opening width and area by 40%, and weight by 55%. The compact, lightweight modular structure also helps extend the driving range of electric vehicles equipped with lightweight, high-capacity batteries.
Despite its compact size, the TEU Series delivers high refrigeration capacity suitable for large trucks, thanks to the "economizer cycle" configuration. This configuration diverts a portion of the refrigerant to cool the main refrigerant flow, which is then injected into the intermediate stage of the compressor during compression, thereby enhancing refrigeration capacity. The TEU Series is also compatible with a variety of power sources, including electric vehicle batteries, onboard generators, and dedicated TRU batteries, and offers multiple temperature settings based on cargo volume and contents, making it applicable to a wide range of vehicle platforms.
The TEU1400MA is a multi-evaporator system that enables simultaneous transport of cargo requiring different temperature ranges on a single vehicle. By installing four different sizes of evaporators in partitioned cargo compartments, the system can simultaneously regulate multiple temperature zones, providing flexible operational support for carriers.
MHI Thermal Systems stated that it will continue to leverage inverter technology to advance electric systems, enhance energy-saving and temperature control capabilities, and improve operational efficiency through multi-evaporator systems to contribute to CO2 reduction. The company will contribute to safe and reliable transport by addressing challenges such as work style reform in the logistics industry, transport efficiency improvement, and environmental compliance.
