Cambodia's Siem Reap WaSSIP Wastewater Project Enters Final Stage

en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Ministry of Public Works and Transport of Cambodia is advancing the final construction of the Water Supply and Sanitation Improvement Project (WaSSIP) in Siem Reap City. The project is financed by the World Bank, with an overall scale of approximately USD 55 million and an implementation period from 2019 to 2026. Its construction scope covers the urban wastewater collection network, pumping stations, wastewater treatment facilities, household connections, and water supply system improvements.

As of the end of June 2026, the overall construction progress of WaSSIP in Siem Reap was approximately 90.34%. The project has cumulatively built about 55.25 km of trunk and secondary wastewater pipelines, equivalent to 92.08% of the original 60 km target; approximately 22,700 people have been connected to the wastewater system through free household connections.

Among these, Contract Package MPWT-CW-6A includes 17.577 km of wastewater pipelines, household connections, and two new wastewater pumping stations; MPWT-CW-9 is responsible for approximately 6.5 km of wastewater collection pipelines and 467 household connections in the West Trunk Sewer Zone of Siem Reap City. At the inspection on June 1, CW-6A was 90.70% complete and CW-9 was 37.22% complete, showing a clear difference in construction pace between the two.

MPWT-CW-9 was awarded in 2026 and is being implemented by a joint venture composed of Phkay Prek Construction and Jace Korea, with a contract amount of approximately USD 1.3155 million and a construction period of 12 months. This contract adopts the World Bank project procurement procedures, and the construction target is the wastewater collection system of the West Trunk Sewer Zone in Siem Reap City.

Other existing contract packages of the project also include MPWT-CW-1A wastewater pipeline network and household connection works, MPWT-CW-3 upgrading of three pumping stations, MPWT-CW-4 renovation of wastewater treatment facilities, and MPWT-CW-6A follow-up pipeline network and pumping station works. The joint venture of CTI Engineering International and PPIC is undertaking project consulting work, and China Railway No. 2 Engineering Group is participating in the construction of some contract packages.

The project objectives set by the World Bank include providing approximately 79,000 people in Siem Reap with improved water supply services and approximately 27,000 people with improved sanitation services by December 2026. In the second half of 2026, the Ministry of Public Works and Transport of Cambodia and the World Bank will continue to carry out implementation support regarding unfinished contract packages, operation and maintenance arrangements, and technical matters before project closure.
