Wedoany.com Report-Jun 25, On June 24, 2025, China’s Ministry of Commerce announced the launch of a “New Energy Vehicle (NEV) Consumption Season” targeting county and township areas to boost NEV sales. The initiative, running from July to December 2025, aims to leverage the combined efforts of local governments, industry associations, and enterprises to tap into the market potential of these regions.

The 200,000th vehicle of Voyah, a Chinese NEV brand, rolls off the assembly line in Wuhan, central China's Hubei Province, April 9, 2025.

The campaign encourages local authorities to actively promote vehicle trade-in programs. Dedicated zones for vehicle trade-ins will be set up at venues hosting NEV consumption season events to facilitate participation. The Ministry emphasized the need to introduce a broader range of NEV models tailored to the diverse preferences of residents in counties and townships.

To support the initiative, localities are urged to create innovative consumption scenarios and accelerate the development of infrastructure, including NEV parking lots, charging stations, and after-sales service centers. These efforts aim to enhance accessibility and convenience for rural consumers, fostering greater adoption of new energy vehicles.

A spokesperson from the Ministry of Commerce stated: “Localities should also develop innovative consumption scenarios and speed up the construction of relevant facilities, such as NEV parking lots, charging stations and after-sales service centers.” This approach is designed to meet the practical needs of rural communities while promoting sustainable transportation.

China’s NEV sector has shown significant growth, with production increasing by 45.2 percent year-on-year to nearly 5.7 million units in the first five months of 2025. Sales during the same period rose by 44 percent year-on-year, reaching 5.61 million units. The consumption season is expected to further drive demand, supporting the country’s sustainable development goals and strengthening the NEV market in less urbanized regions.

By engaging local stakeholders and improving infrastructure, the initiative seeks to make NEVs more accessible and appealing to county and township residents, contributing to the broader adoption of clean energy vehicles across China.
