Wedoany.com Report-Jun 26, Telia Estonia has become the first telecommunications provider in Estonia to equip nearly 25% of its mobile masts with solar parks, enabling thousands of customers to access mobile services powered by sustainable energy. This initiative enhances the resilience of Telia’s infrastructure while promoting environmentally friendly energy use. The solar parks are designed to generate approximately 1.5 gigawatt-hours of electricity annually.

The solar parks, developed and managed by renewable energy company Sunly under a 15-year agreement, have capacities ranging from 10 to 20 kilowatts and are installed at various locations across Estonia. The next stage of the project will focus on integrating advanced energy management and storage systems to optimize the use of captured solar energy. Since 2020, Telia’s networks across all its markets have operated on 100% renewable energy. Incorporating solar power diversifies the energy mix, improving both operational flexibility and network reliability.

Mihkel Kõiv, Network Manager at Telia Estonia, stated: “Our solar parks can generate approximately 1.5 gigawatt-hours of electricity a year. To put that into perspective – if an electric vehicle consumes 15 kilowatt-hours every 100 kilometers, the energy we produce could power 10 million kilometers of driving.”

This development supports Telia’s commitment to sustainable practices, reducing reliance on traditional energy sources and strengthening network stability. By expanding solar energy use, Telia Estonia is contributing to a greener telecommunications sector while ensuring consistent service for its customers. The initiative also sets a foundation for further advancements in energy storage and smart management, paving the way for more efficient and sustainable operations in the future.
