Wedoany.com Report-Jul. 30, Argentina, a leading global grain supplier, is preparing to send its first corn shipment to China in August, following Beijing’s approval of such imports in 2023, according to data from the local shipping agency NABSA on Tuesday. This milestone marks a significant step in expanding Argentina’s agricultural exports to one of the world’s largest markets.

The Association of Argentine Cooperatives (ACA), a prominent grain production and export group, will ship 24,718 metric tons of corn from its terminal in the port of Quequen. This export, the first of its kind since China authorized Argentine corn imports, underscores Argentina’s position as the third-largest global corn supplier. The shipment is set to depart on August 15 aboard the CANADA EXPRESS vessel, based on NABSA’s data.

Gustavo Idigoras, president of the CIARA-CEC exporters’ chamber, stated: “The start of corn shipments to China is a milestone in our commercial strategy with that country.” He emphasized that this development allows Chinese buyers to access high-quality Argentine corn, potentially leading to larger purchase volumes in the future.

In 2023, China approved the import of two varieties of genetically modified (GMO) corn from Argentina. However, according to national statistics, no GMO corn has yet been exported to China. The upcoming shipment represents a key opportunity to strengthen trade relationships and support Argentine farmers by opening new markets.

The ACA has not provided further comments on the shipment. This export initiative is expected to enhance economic ties between Argentina and China, fostering growth for Argentina’s agricultural sector. By leveraging its robust grain production capabilities, Argentina aims to meet the demands of Chinese consumers while reinforcing its role in global agricultural trade.

This development highlights the growing collaboration between the two nations in the agricultural sector, offering Argentine exporters access to a significant market and contributing to the global supply of corn. As the first shipment sets sail, it paves the way for further opportunities to expand Argentina’s presence in China’s grain market.
