Wedoany.com Report-Aug. 17, The Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) has granted over €700 million in subsidies to 11 hydrogen production projects under the second round of its subsidy scheme for large-scale hydrogen production using electrolyzers (OWE). This program supports companies developing electrolyzer units with a capacity of 0.5 MW or greater to produce sustainable hydrogen.

The funding round made nearly €1 billion available, though RVO received applications requesting over €3.2 billion. The 11 selected projects collectively offer approximately 602 MW of electrolyzer capacity, tripling the scale of the largest hydrogen plant currently under construction in the Netherlands. These initiatives are expected to contribute to reducing CO₂ emissions in sectors such as refineries, the chemical industry, and fuel stations. Companies must complete their projects by mid-2030.

RVO explained its selection process, stating: “This creates competition between projects and ensures that the most cost-efficient projects receive funding.” The agency evaluates applicants based on the subsidy requested per megawatt of electrolyzer capacity and accounts for any previously awarded subsidies. The average subsidy for the selected projects is €1.78 million per megawatt.

The funded projects are poised to advance the Netherlands’ sustainable energy goals by producing clean hydrogen, a key resource for decarbonizing industrial and transportation sectors. By prioritizing cost-efficient initiatives, RVO aims to maximize the impact of its investment, supporting the nation’s transition to a low-carbon economy while fostering innovation in hydrogen technology.
