Wedoany.com Report-Aug. 24, BESIX Watpac, an Australian construction company, has been awarded the contract for the next phase of Adelaide Airport’s infrastructure development, known as Project Flight. This project extends a 15-year partnership, during which BESIX Watpac has completed six projects within the airport precinct, reinforcing its expertise in aviation infrastructure.
The upgraded check-in area will include new kiosks and additional bag-drop facilities.

Project Flight aims to support Adelaide Airport’s long-term aviation strategy and accommodate growing passenger numbers. The expansion includes upgrades such as an enhanced check-in hall with advanced technology, a 10,000-square-meter extension to the Northern Terminal, and a 5,500-square-meter expansion of the Southern Terminal. The upgraded check-in area will feature new kiosks and additional bag-drop facilities to improve traveler efficiency and experience.
Al Crosby, BESIX Watpac’s general manager, said: “Our specialist team in South Australia has consistently delivered great outcomes in partnership with Adelaide Airport, and their expertise will ensure another high-quality project is delivered together with the support of our local subcontractor network.” The company has previously completed a major terminal expansion at Adelaide Airport in 2021 and is currently upgrading passenger screening and baggage handling systems.
Construction for Project Flight is set to begin soon and will proceed in phases over the coming years. BESIX Watpac’s work at Adelaide Airport spans landside, airside, sterile, and Border Agency areas, demonstrating its capability to manage complex operational environments. Additionally, in June 2025, the company contributed to constructing Belgium’s first near-surface nuclear waste facility, showcasing its global expertise in specialized infrastructure.
