The agreement, formalized in Berlin, involves Canada’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Tim Hodgson, and Germany’s Economy Minister, Katharina Reiche. It aims to support the growing demand for minerals essential to clean energy technologies, advanced manufacturing, and defense systems.

The partnership prioritizes critical minerals such as lithium, rare earth elements, copper, tungsten, gallium, germanium, and nickel. These resources are vital for producing electric vehicles, renewable energy infrastructure, and high-tech equipment. The agreement emphasizes midstream technologies, including processing, refining, and recycling, to ensure reliable and environmentally responsible supply chains.

Both nations will promote joint projects through public and private investments, fostering collaboration between companies and financial institutions. The initiative also encourages research and development to advance innovation in the critical minerals sector. By coordinating efforts, Canada and Germany aim to create resilient supply chains that support their economic and environmental goals.

The declaration is not legally binding and does not impose financial obligations.
