Wedoany.com Report-Sept. 14, Türkiye’s Ministry for Energy and Natural Resources has announced that the country will conduct a series of solar and wind tenders in November and December, aiming to secure 2 GW of new renewable energy capacity. Minister Alparslan Bayraktar confirmed the tenders will be delivered under the Renewable Energy Resource Area (YEKA) program.

The initiative will include 850 MW of solar and 1,150 MW of wind energy projects spread across multiple provinces. A total of nine solar tenders are planned, with project sizes ranging from 40 MW to 260 MW. The projects will be located in Elazığ, Kahramanmaraş, Erzurum, Bolu, Eskişehir, Mardin, and Van.
Türkiye will also hold its first tender for a floating solar project. This 35 MW array will be located in the Demirköprü hydropower reservoir area in Manisa. The launch of this tender follows recent legal reforms that allow the development of solar power facilities on water bodies.
For all competitions, the ministry has set a ceiling price for the unit purchase price of electricity at €0.055 ($0.065)/kWh. The floor prices are fixed at €0.0325/kWh for solar energy tenders and €0.0350/kWh for wind tenders. If the floor price is reached, the competitions will proceed with a contribution increase mechanism starting from €10,000/MW.
Winners of the tenders will benefit from a free market sales period. This will allow them to sell electricity on the free market for 60 months in the case of solar projects and 72 months for wind projects. Once this period concludes, a 20-year power purchase agreement will apply, based on the awarded tender price.
Earlier this year, the first round of YEKA auctions took place in January and February, securing 800 MW of solar and 1,200 MW of wind capacity. These tenders are part of Türkiye’s broader strategy to expand renewable energy production and reduce reliance on conventional power sources.
In the first half of this year, Türkiye added 3.1 GW of new solar capacity, pushing cumulative solar installations above 23 GW. During the Turkish Wind Energy Congress last week, Minister Bayraktar highlighted that the combined solar and wind capacity now exceeds 37 GW, which accounts for nearly 31% of the country’s total installed electricity capacity.
Looking ahead, Türkiye has set a target to achieve 120 GW of solar and wind capacity by 2035. The upcoming tenders represent another step toward meeting this long-term goal, reflecting the growing importance of renewable energy in the country’s energy mix.
