UOW confirmed its relocation to Liverpool Civic Place in December 2024. The project will establish new teaching facilities specifically designed for higher education. University operations at the new site are scheduled to begin in early 2026, while the full construction stage is expected to conclude in 2028.

The Liverpool Campus currently hosts UOW’s fastest-growing student population. With the new facilities, student capacity will increase from 1,500 to 4,000. Vice-chancellor and president Professor Max Lu highlighted the rapid growth in demand: “We have seen a 134% increase in completed applications for our Liverpool Campus compared to this time last year. This strong growth in applications shows the vital role our Liverpool Campus will play in expanding access to higher education and deepening UOW’s commitment to the region.”

Plans for the development include an 11-storey building dedicated to university use, along with life sciences facilities, co-living apartments, retail outlets, and public spaces. The campus will be located close to Liverpool Station, providing convenient transport connections for students and staff across the region.

The project is being delivered in partnership with Built, a company responsible for developing the education and community infrastructure. Built development director Jono Cottee said: “Built is proud to deliver this state-of-the-art education facility, marking a transformative moment for Liverpool and South West Sydney. By partnering with the University of Wollongong and co-locating world-class education and life sciences facilities, adjacent to Liverpool’s first co-living building, Built is ensuring Liverpool remains a vibrant, liveable, and connected city. This development will generate new economic activity and provide housing options that support people working where they live, strengthening Liverpool’s position as a dynamic urban centre.”

The Liverpool Civic Place project represents a major step for UOW in extending its academic presence and supporting regional development. The new campus is designed to accommodate the growing student population while fostering collaboration between education, science, housing, and business.

With construction underway, the project is set to contribute not only to higher education expansion but also to economic growth and urban revitalization in South West Sydney. The new facilities are expected to enhance opportunities for students while supporting Liverpool’s role as an important educational and innovation hub in the region.
