Wedoany.com Report-Nov. 7, JA Solar has signed an agreement with Larsen & Toubro (L&T) to supply 1.2 GW of photovoltaic (PV) modules for the Samarkand 1 and 2 solar power projects in Uzbekistan. L&T will serve as the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractor for the projects, which are being developed by ACWA Power near Samarkand in central Uzbekistan.

Once completed, the combined utility-scale projects will have a capacity of 1.2 GW, expected to provide electricity to hundreds of thousands of homes while reducing annual carbon dioxide emissions by over one million tonnes. The initiatives support Uzbekistan’s national target of generating 25% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030.

Aiqing Yang, executive president of JA Solar, said: “We are honoured to support these strategic projects alongside world-class partners. Our high-efficiency, high-reliability modules are engineered to maximise energy yield in diverse environments. This agreement underscores the confidence our partners place in JA Solar’s technology and execution capabilities.”

The collaboration between ACWA Power, L&T, and JA Solar focuses on delivering large-scale solar assets in the region. In addition to renewable energy generation, the projects are expected to create local employment, support infrastructure improvements, and enhance grid stability.

Established in 2005, JA Solar is a vertically integrated PV manufacturer producing wafers, cells, modules, and energy storage products. The company operates 16 overseas subsidiaries, serves customers in 180 countries, and has shipped nearly 317 GW of cells and modules as of Q3 2025.

ACWA Power, based in Saudi Arabia, develops, invests in, and operates power and water projects internationally, providing renewable energy solutions for utility-scale applications to support economic development and sustainability.

L&T is an Indian company involved in EPC projects, manufacturing, and services, with operations in over 50 countries. The firm’s expertise in large-scale infrastructure projects complements JA Solar’s technology and ACWA Power’s development capabilities.

Earlier in 2025, JA Solar was selected to provide high-performance DeepBlue 4.0 Pro modules for the Korlat solar PV project in Croatia, reflecting the company’s growing global footprint.

The Samarkand 1 and 2 projects demonstrate the expanding adoption of renewable energy in Central Asia and highlight the benefits of international partnerships in accelerating clean energy deployment, supporting local economies, and contributing to carbon reduction goals. Through this agreement, JA Solar, ACWA Power, and L&T aim to deliver reliable, large-scale solar energy solutions while fostering regional energy transition initiatives.

The projects are expected to be completed according to scheduled timelines, marking a significant step toward Uzbekistan’s renewable energy objectives and enhancing sustainable power generation capacity in the region.
