Wedoany.com Report-Nov. 12, Mitsubishi Gas Chemical Co. (MGC), headquartered in Tokyo, has announced the completion of a new plant expansion at MGC Electrotechno (Thailand) Co., Ltd. (ETT), a subsidiary of MGC Electrotechno Co. (ET) specializing in the production of BT materials for semiconductor packages. The new facility marks an important step in strengthening MGC’s global supply framework and enhancing production capabilities to meet the growing demand for semiconductor materials.
ETT was established in Thailand in 2012 as part of MGC’s business continuity plan to ensure a stable and diversified global supply of BT materials through a dual operational structure. The system integrates domestic production in Japan under ET and international production in Thailand under ETT. Over the past decade, both entities have worked closely to build an efficient, resilient global network for manufacturing and delivering BT materials.
The semiconductor market, which relies heavily on BT materials, is projected to experience sustained medium- to long-term growth. Demand is being driven by several technological advancements, including the expansion of 5G and the anticipated arrival of 6G networks, accelerating digital transformation (DX), the proliferation of IoT applications, and innovations in automotive electronics. Additionally, the rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, including generative AI, has intensified the need for high-performance semiconductor components and supporting materials.
As semiconductors become an essential component of industrial and national strategies worldwide, countries are increasingly prioritizing the creation of stable and diversified semiconductor supply chains. Against this backdrop, MGC’s decision to expand its production base in Thailand aims to reinforce supply reliability and resilience, addressing both global demand growth and potential supply disruptions.
The new ETT facility effectively doubles the company’s BT material production capacity. This expansion is designed to enhance operational flexibility, strengthen competitiveness, and create opportunities to capture new markets in the evolving semiconductor sector. By establishing this additional production base, MGC ensures that its global network can adapt swiftly to market fluctuations and customer needs, supporting a stable and consistent material supply.
MGC stated that the increased capacity will not only support the company’s growth strategy but also improve its overall business continuity plan (BCP) by providing greater protection against production or logistics interruptions.
With this development, MGC Electrotechno’s Thailand operations become an integral part of the company’s long-term strategy to maintain leadership in advanced semiconductor materials. The expansion aligns with MGC’s commitment to reliability, innovation, and sustainability in the global electronics materials market, reinforcing its position as a key supplier in a rapidly evolving technological landscape.
