Recently, the construction company Itinera announced the completion of blasting and excavation work for a crucial service tunnel in the Stockholm Metro expansion project, marking a significant milestone in the related tunnel engineering.
The final 4-meter blast was completed last week, achieving the full breakthrough of the tunnel connecting Hagastaden and Arenastaden. The company stated that this blasting operation holds significant technical and logistical importance, representing a key milestone for the overall tunnel project. This service tunnel serves as the foundation for subsequent construction, and its successful completion is attributed to the construction team's professional capability in executing tunnel engineering within a complex urban environment, as well as their adherence to stringent safety and sustainability standards.
This metro expansion is the largest investment in Stockholm's public transport system in 50 years. Its core tunnel engineering will add 30 kilometers of new track and 18 stations to the network. The project includes: constructing new Blue Line tunnels from Akalla to Barkarby and from Kungsträdgården to Nacka and Söderort; building a new Green Line connection tunnel from Odenplan to Arenastaden; and creating a completely new Yellow Line tunnel from Fridhemsplan to Älvsjö.
It is reported that the procurement process for contracts related to the subsequent Yellow Line tunnel engineering is expected to commence early this year.
