Wedoany.com Report on Feb 24th, UK building materials company Tarmac has recently launched a digital carbon calculator named CEVO, designed to help specifiers and highway contractors quickly calculate the embodied carbon emissions of asphalt mixes. This tool aims to optimize decision-making processes and support sustainability reporting. Based on asphalt product type and input tonnage, it can provide carbon footprint data from raw material to factory gate within seconds.

With the growing global demand for low-carbon construction, the CEVO Asphalt Carbon Calculator provides users with reliable carbon data using the industry-recognized asPECT methodology, combined with Tarmac's internal data and expert verification. For each asphalt mix, the tool can display carbon savings compared to traditional hot mix asphalt. Users can also select a bio-binder version to assess further emission reduction potential.

The downloadable certificate generated by the calculator includes the material's carbon footprint, carbon savings, calculation date, and the methodology used. This information helps highlight sustainability advantages in project tenders and supports contractors' Scope 3 emissions reporting. It is specifically designed to complement Tarmac's CEVO asphalt solution, which utilizes plant-based bio-binders, warm mix technology, and a high percentage of Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement (RAP) to produce low-carbon products.

Jess Tuck, National Technical Director at Tarmac, stated: "We recognize the importance of reducing embodied carbon in highway projects and are committed to driving the industry towards net-zero goals through innovative tools. CEVO asphalt combines advanced binder technology with circular economy principles, offering up to 45% lower carbon emissions compared to traditional hot mix asphalt. The addition of the CEVO Asphalt Carbon Calculator will enhance data transparency, helping clients better understand their carbon footprint, which is crucial for meeting regulatory requirements."
