On February 25, 2026, witnessed by the Premiers of China and Germany, Zheng Shanjie, Chairman of China's National Development and Reform Commission, and Michael Ruhnau, Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy of Germany, signed the "Joint Statement of the Government of the People's Republic of China and the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany on Continuing the Dialogue and Cooperation Mechanism on Climate Change and Green Transition."
According to the Joint Statement, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to advancing and improving cooperation under this mechanism, focusing on policy exchanges and cooperation in areas such as energy, industry, energy efficiency, and the circular economy, to further promote the implementation of the goals of the Paris Agreement.
China and Germany established an intergovernmental dialogue and cooperation mechanism on climate change and green transition in June 2023 and set up a high-level dialogue to guide the cooperation. In June 2024, the first high-level dialogue under the mechanism was held in Beijing, where both sides announced a series of important achievements in areas such as green transition cooperation between provinces and states, energy efficiency, circular economy and resource efficiency, and industrial decarbonization. Since then, both sides have continued to promote dialogue and cooperation in the field of green and low-carbon development under the framework of the mechanism, and the related work has made positive progress.
The signing of this Joint Statement marks a new stage in China-Germany cooperation in the fields of climate change and green transition, laying a solid foundation for future policy coordination and practical cooperation between the two sides in related areas.
