Wedoany.com Report on Feb 27th, Qantas has announced the establishment of a crew base in Singapore to enhance capacity from Australia. Singapore is Qantas's largest international hub outside of Australia. The new base is scheduled to commence operations in September, initially staffed with 120 crew members and is expected to grow to 650 within five years.

This move follows the closure of Qantas's low-cost subsidiary Jetstar Asia in 2025, which affected over 500 employees in Singapore. Qantas expects to offer new positions to approximately 50 employees who worked for Jetstar Australia.
The Singapore crew base will become Qantas's fourth international crew base, following London, Auckland, and Wellington. Singapore is the third-largest hub for oneworld alliance operators, after Sydney and Melbourne. From the city, Qantas flies to Australian cities such as Perth, Darwin, Sydney, Brisbane, and Melbourne, as well as London.
Qantas will also increase seat capacity on flights between Singapore and Sydney by deploying additional Airbus A380 services. The schedule changes will take effect on December 1, meaning that 13 out of the 14 weekly Singapore-Sydney flights will be operated by A380 aircraft.
Qantas revealed it is conducting "ongoing re-evaluation" of its A380 network "to ensure the optimal deployment of the available fleet in the current economic environment." The airline restored its 10th and final A380 from long-term storage in 2025, a move said to drive growth in 2026.
