Wedoany.com Report on Feb 28th, Will Rudd Edinburgh has recently completed critical tower crane foundation works for an aparthotel development in Edinburgh city centre, facilitating the crane's installation. This crane is part of a new development by RIGH Properties located between Princes Street and Hanover Street, one of the city's most constrained construction sites. Its successful installation marks the official commencement of the main construction phase.

Will Rudd collaborated with contractor Thomas Johnstone Ltd, PMQS Axiom PSL, architects Fletcher Joseph Associates, and M&E engineers Rybka to provide permanent and temporary works design services for the conversion of three underutilised buildings into a bespoke 60-key aparthotel. The installation of the tower crane demanded high engineering precision and meticulous construction planning. Located centrally within the site and surrounded by existing buildings, the crane's installation had to follow a series of preparatory works. These included partial demolition, piling and substructure construction, as well as the full closure of Hanover Street to vehicular traffic and partial restrictions for pedestrians.

As part of its remit, Will Rudd Edinburgh designed the tower crane's base, ensuring the equipment could be safely installed in the height-restricted urban environment. This operation demonstrated the firm's expertise in delivering tailored engineering solutions for space-limited city centre sites. Chris Milne, Director at Will Rudd, said: "This project perfectly exemplifies the type of engineering challenge our team excels at. Installing a tower crane in such a constrained location required a truly bespoke approach, from detailed modelling and foundation design to close coordination with the wider project team. Seeing the crane now in place is a significant achievement and an exciting moment for everyone involved."

The aparthotel project will refurbish the existing buildings while introducing new elements that complement the area's historic character. With the tower crane now in position, the project will fully enter its main construction phase.
