Wedoany.com Report on Mar 2nd, Dr. Agbu Kefas, the Governor of Taraba State, launched the Boboji Water Project on February 27, 2026, aiming to solve the long-standing flooding problem in the Jalingo metropolitan area. At the project inauguration ceremony, the Governor stated that this water project would bring improvements to residents long affected by erosion and flooding. He also directed the Jalingo Local Government Council to repair roads connecting the affected communities to complement the improvement of the drainage system.

On site, Environment Minister Balarabe Abbas Lawal pointed out that Boboji River erosion has become a major concern for local residents, and the state government's intervention measures are targeted. Mrs. Aliyat S. Barde, the State Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, revealed that due to the large scale of this water project, the state government has sought support from the World Bank for project implementation. She stated that drainage issues pose an environmental threat to lives and property, necessitating engineering measures to address them.
Dr. Joy Iganya Agene, Team Lead for the Semi-Arid Region Agricultural Climate Resilience Project, explained that the Boboji Water Project has been prioritized for intervention due to its scale and impact. This project will not only help contain floods in flood-prone areas but will also create employment opportunities for residents during construction and subsequently. Mr. Nura Dantsoho, Chairman of Jalingo Local Government, and Alhaji Abba Tukur Abba, the Galadima of Muri, each delivered speeches affirming the state government's response to environmental challenges.
