Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) inaugurated its Compressed Biogas (CBG) plant in Brahmapuram, Kochi, Kerala, India. The CBG plant inauguration was presided over by Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, and attended by Union Minister of State for Petroleum & Natural Gas and Tourism, Suresh Gopi; Minister for Local Self Government, Rural Development & Excise, M.B. Rajesh; and Minister for Law, Industries & Coir, P. Rajeev.

The Brahmapuram CBG facility aims to address Kochi's municipal waste management challenges by converting source-segregated biodegradable solid waste into clean, renewable fuel and organic manure, offering a long-term solution.

Designed to process 150 tonnes of waste per day, this CBG plant is expected to produce approximately 5.6 tonnes of compressed biogas and 28 tonnes of organic manure daily, thereby supporting sustainable energy production and resource recovery.

The purified biogas will be directly supplied to BPCL's Cochin Refinery via a dedicated pipeline, helping reduce dependence on fossil fuels and advancing the objectives of India's 2018 National Biofuel Policy towards achieving energy security through indigenous, low-carbon alternatives.

The CBG facility is equipped with advanced automation systems, integrated safety measures, and real-time monitoring infrastructure, showcasing BPCL's efforts to transform environmental challenges into scalable energy solutions, converting legacy waste into productive national assets.
