Recently, India's Reliance Industries completed the unloading of a batch of jet fuel in Italy. This marks India's first fuel export to Europe since the EU banned imports of Russian crude oil processed products starting January 21st this year. Data shows that a tanker chartered by the company unloaded approximately 390,000 barrels of jet fuel at a port near Rome.
As one of the major importers of Russian crude oil, the export trends of India's refined products to Europe are highly watched by the market. To comply with relevant EU regulations, Reliance Industries previously stated that its export-oriented refining facilities have stopped processing Russian crude oil since November 20th last year. A company spokesperson said, "This delivery was delayed due to weather conditions." The spokesperson emphasized that the company can achieve segregated production of oil products from different sources, specifically providing fuel that meets requirements for the European market.
Data shows that last year, India's jet fuel exports to Europe reached 4.1 million tons, nearly triple the amount from 2021. From 2022 to 2025, India supplied about 15% of Europe's jet fuel imports. Since the ban took effect, Europe has not imported any diesel-type products from India.
