Wedoany.com Report on Mar 6th, In 2009, French food giant Danone established the non-profit organization Danone Ecosystem, aiming to address the global financial crisis and strengthen community resilience. The organization recently released its 15th anniversary report, outlining its positive impact on millions of people worldwide.
Danone Ecosystem is committed to promoting inclusive, circular, healthy, and sustainable food systems, extending beyond the company's own value chain. Through knowledge sharing, technical assistance, and financial support, the organization helps smallholder farmers, waste collectors, healthcare workers, and local communities address challenges such as unsustainable agriculture, waste management issues, and shortages of medical resources.
Nathalie Alquier, Danone's Chief Sustainability Officer and Chair of Danone Ecosystem, stated: "For over 15 years, Danone Ecosystem has empowered communities, strengthened healthcare systems, and protected nature through more than 100 specific projects. As geopolitical instability and climate change intensify, the need for such initiatives is increasingly urgent."
Over 15 years, Danone Ecosystem, in collaboration with 92 partners, has launched more than 100 projects, with a joint investment of 248 million euros, directly benefiting 6.1 million people. Its work focuses on four areas: regenerative agriculture, watershed protection, inclusive collection, and health.
For example, in France, the "Les 2 Pieds Sur Terre" project provides farmers with greenhouse gas emission analysis and regenerative agriculture training. By 2022, 1,654 farms had completed carbon audits, and 53% of dairy farmers had undergone comprehensive assessments, reducing greenhouse gas emissions per liter of milk by 10% between 2016 and 2022.
In Romania, the "Health for Mothers and Children" (SAMAS) project promotes breastfeeding to improve child and maternal health. Since 2016, the project has trained approximately 2,500 perinatal educators and supported over 36,000 mothers and parents.
Laurent Sacchi, Chairman of the Danone Ecosystem Board, noted: "Based on scientific collaboration, Danone Ecosystem has become a catalyst for resilience, demonstrating that achieving systemic change through concrete actions is both possible and necessary." Danone CEO Antoine De Saint-Affrique added: "Collaboration with farmers, NGOs, and communities is key to driving a sustainable future."
Looking ahead, Danone Ecosystem plans to expand its projects to more materials and regions, continuing to promote resilient care systems and sustainable food practices globally.
