Wedoany.com Report on Mar 9th, According to gender indicator monitoring data from the CCM-Eleva Alliance in Chile, the Chilean mining sector achieved a 23.1% female participation rate in the first half of 2025. This figure has already surpassed the target of 20% by 2030 set by the country's Ministry of Mining. Chile has thus become one of the countries with a relatively high female participation rate in the global mining industry, leading traditional mining powerhouses such as Australia and Canada.
Despite the increase in female participation, the Chilean mining sector still faces structural challenges: approximately three-quarters of the workforce is male, and the proportion of women in leadership, management, and senior positions remains relatively low. The National Mining Policy 2050 of the Chilean Ministry of Mining aims to promote gender equality. Current data shows the industry has achieved its phased target ahead of schedule, shifting the focus towards strengthening the role of women in strategic decision-making.
Research by the Chilean Copper Commission indicates that three years ago, the female participation rate in Chilean mining was around 15%. The increase to 23% reflects the effectiveness of inclusive policies and changes in industry culture. Companies like BHP have already taken measures, with women holding 40% of leadership positions, demonstrating progress in promoting gender diversity within decision-making teams.
