Officials from the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority announced on March 7 that the Baner ramp of the two-level flyover at the University Junction will open on March 9. This flyover is part of the Hinjawadi to Shivajinagar Metro corridor, coming nearly six months after the Aundh ramp opened in August last year. The new ramp is expected to alleviate traffic congestion on the Baner-Ganeshkhind road stretch.

This 1.7-kilometer-long, six-lane integrated flyover runs parallel to the Metro line and began construction after approval in August 2022. The project includes multiple ramps, with the Baner ramp being 151 meters long and designed for four lanes. Rinaj Patan, Chief Engineer of the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority, stated that the section about to be opened has completed all necessary inspections. He said, "All safety measures have been implemented before opening to traffic. This flyover will significantly ease congestion at the University Junction, benefiting commuters from Baner, Balewadi, Aundh, and the Hinjawadi IT hub." He added that the project plays a positive role in strengthening regional urban transportation.

Local residents have expressed anticipation for the new flyover facilities. Swapnil Prabhakaran, a resident of Aundh, said, "After the delays in opening the Aundh and Shivajinagar ramps, the opening of the Baner ramp six months later is a huge relief. It will definitely ease traffic pressure on the main road." Student Maitili More suggested that traffic police should be deployed after the section opens to ensure smooth traffic flow.

According to officials, the Aundh-Shivajinagar ramp is already operational, and the Paud ramp is nearing completion. Siddharth Shirole, the legislator from the Shivajinagar constituency, stated on social media that he believes the new flyover will alleviate traffic pressure on this stretch. He said, "As Pune continues to develop, such infrastructure upgrades are crucial for improving mobility and enhancing city-wide connectivity." Currently, the Metro Line 3 station at University Junction is also under construction and will connect with ramps from all directions in the future.
