Wedoany.com Report, On March 5, a delegation led by Li Xiaoyun, Senior Chair Professor in Liberal Arts and Honorary Dean of the College of International Development and Global Agriculture (CIDGA) at China Agricultural University (CAU), visited Souphanouvong University in Laos. They held talks with Somchay Phaignavong, Vice President of Souphanouvong University, among others. Following the meeting, Professor Li Xiaoyun and Vice President Somchay jointly inaugurated the China Agricultural University Regional and Country Studies Laos Base, established at Souphanouvong University. Wu Jin, Executive Dean of CIDGA at CAU, and Bounlam Singpa, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture and Forest Resources at Souphanouvong University, signed a Memorandum of Cooperation on behalf of their respective colleges.
Vice President Somchay introduced that Souphanouvong University is named after Prince Souphanouvong, the first President of Laos. It is one of the five national universities in Laos, under the Ministry of Education and Sports, and maintains particularly close cooperation and exchanges with Chinese universities. Souphanouvong University warmly welcomed the arrival of the CAU professor team and hopes that the initiation of inter-college cooperation will serve as an opportunity to further promote collaboration between the two universities.
Professor Li Xiaoyun briefly introduced the advantageous disciplines of China Agricultural University, particularly outlining the research, exchanges, visits, and practical work to be carried out by CIDGA in collaboration with the Faculty of Agriculture at Souphanouvong University under the framework of the Regional and Country Studies Base. This work will focus on themes such as agricultural and rural development, poverty reduction, and rural talent cultivation.
On January 30 this year, the China Agricultural University Regional and Country Studies Indonesia Base was inaugurated at IPB University. The Laos Base inaugurated at Souphanouvong University is another regional and country studies base launched by China Agricultural University in the Global South. Representatives from Souphanouvong University's President's Office, International Office, Student Affairs Office, and heads of departments from the Faculty of Agriculture, as well as faculty and student representatives from CIDGA at CAU, attended the discussion and inauguration ceremony. On March 7, personnel from both colleges also visited Thinxom Village to make preparations for practical cooperation related to the base.
