en.Wedoany.com Report on Mar 27th, Smulders HSM has begun constructing the offshore substation topside and jacket for the East Anglia TWO wind farm. This project was initiated following the award of an EPCIC contract in 2025 by ScottishPower Renewables, part of the Iberdrola Group. The offshore wind farm is located in the southern North Sea and has a capacity of 960 megawatts.
Hans Leerdam, Commercial Director at Smulders HSM, stated: "This moment marks a significant step forward for the East Anglia TWO project. With the topside construction starting at our Stormpolder yard and the jacket work officially launched in Newcastle, we are demonstrating Smulders HSM's integrated capabilities to deliver projects safely and efficiently, while increasing the project's UK content." He added: "Our yard teams in the Netherlands and the UK are fully committed and ready to demonstrate the exceptional execution required for this landmark project."
The topside is being fabricated at the Stormpolder yard in the Netherlands, while the jacket work is already underway in Newcastle, UK. The topside measures approximately 58 x 35 x 30 meters and weighs about 5,100 tonnes; the jacket measures approximately 40 x 32 x 58 meters and weighs about 3,450 tonnes. Jacket installation is planned for 2027, with topside installation to be completed later that same year.
Charlie Jordan, CEO of ScottishPower Renewables, said: "It is a proud moment to see work on the offshore substation for our third wind farm in the southern North Sea underway, bringing us another step closer to a clean energy future for the UK." He further noted: "It is incredibly exciting to see the jacket foundations being manufactured in coastal areas not far from where the East Anglia TWO wind farm will operate in a few years." The progress in constructing the East Anglia TWO offshore wind farm is expected to advance the development of the European renewable energy sector, supporting the energy transition in both the UK and the Netherlands.
