en.Wedoany.com Report on Mar 28th, The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) Board of Directors has voted to advance the K Line North Extension project. This project, developed over decades, aims to connect the South Bay to Inglewood and Los Angeles International Airport, and extend along the Fairfax Line to West Hollywood, Hollywood, and the Hollywood Bowl.
This 9.7-mile K Line North Extension will traverse Crenshaw and Mid-City, connecting four major rail lines and six bus corridors to form the first continuous north-south rail line in the Los Angeles Basin, enhancing regional connectivity and transportation accessibility.
Supervisor and Metro Board Member Lindsey P. Horvath stated: "This amendment brings both urgency and certainty. Under the leadership of Mayor Karen Bass and Mayor John Heilman, we are intentionally investing in connection, community, and opportunity, while responding to the fierce urgency of a new generation counting on us to get this right — and to get the K Line North Extension done now."
The K Line North Extension is projected to serve approximately 100,000 daily riders, connect to 125,000 jobs within walking distance of stations, and serve over 325,000 residents who rely on public transit. Councilmember and Metro Board Member Katy Yaroslavsky noted: "This is how you build a city where opportunity is within reach, connecting people to jobs, housing, healthcare, and each other through a system that works."
The project is expected to create over 10,000 union construction jobs, generate $9.7 billion in union wages, and spur over $22 billion in economic activity. Segments 2 and 3 of the line have been approved, with the City of West Hollywood establishing an Enhanced Infrastructure Financing District expected to raise approximately $2.25 billion in funding. The motion passed as an amendment after 1.5 hours of public comment, with over 900 people registered to participate.
