en.Wedoany.com Reported - Finnish offshore operator Meriaura has recently ordered a 6,800 dwt open deck carrier from China's Jiangsu Zhenjiang Shipyard, which will be equipped with a Wärtsilä propulsion solution. The vessel, measuring 120 meters in length and 21.6 meters in width, features 1A ice class and DP2 dynamic positioning capabilities. Its design focuses on reducing energy consumption, enhancing operational flexibility, and lowering emissions.

Jessica Saari, Business Development Director at Meriaura, stated: "This vessel is a significant step in our fleet renewal plan, strengthening our capability for heavy-lift projects and special cargo transport. Through the increased capacity, fuel preparation, and operational flexibility improvements of Wärtsilä engines, we can provide efficient and sustainable services to our customers under a wider range of conditions."
The Wärtsilä propulsion solution includes two Wärtsilä 25 main engines, featuring a modular design that combines fuel flexibility and emission control technologies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The solution also encompasses a Wärtsilä 20 engine and a Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system to further optimize environmental performance. Additionally, a complete electric propulsion system and three transverse thrusters will enhance efficiency, support dynamic positioning, and are suitable for offshore construction and heavy-lift operations.
Mika Ojutkangas, General Manager of Sales, Finland & Baltic, Wärtsilä Marine, noted: "This project reflects the shipping industry's efforts to adopt flexible, efficient, and sustainable solutions to drive decarbonization. By combining engines, electric propulsion, and maneuvering technologies, we are helping Meriaura achieve operational flexibility and emission reductions." The Wärtsilä equipment is scheduled for delivery in mid-2027, with the vessel expected to enter service in early 2028.
