en.Wedoany.com Reported - Romanian oil and gas company OMV Petrom, together with its partner RNV Infrastructure, has officially announced the start of construction on three wind parks with a total installed capacity of 305 MW. These projects have obtained the necessary permits and are expected to be commissioned in phases starting from the first half of 2027.
"By 2030, OMV Petrom aims to achieve an installed renewable energy capacity of over 2.5 GW in partnership with others," said Franck Neel, member of the OMV Petrom Executive Board responsible for gas and electricity business. "We have built a portfolio comprising solar, wind, and hydro projects, providing the necessary options to reach this target. We are resolutely shifting from the project phase to execution and production: we currently have 70 MW in operation and over 1,100 MW under development — including 300 MW of wind energy. Construction work for several projects and equipment deliveries are underway."
These wind projects originate from a transaction completed in October 2024. OMV Petrom, through its subsidiary Electrocentrale Borzești, acquired 50% stakes in four wind projects developed by RNV Infrastructure. The projects include Gura Văii (50 MW) and Podu Turcului (100 MW) in Bacău County, and Poiana (155 MW) in Galați County. Additionally, a final investment decision is imminent for a wind power project with a total capacity of 657 MW in Galați County.
The joint venture Electrocentrale Borzești operates a portfolio totaling 950 MW of wind power and 50 MW of solar power projects, along with an old thermal power plant that began operations in the late 1960s. Last year, one of its subsidiaries obtained government support for the Poiana project in Romania's second round of renewable energy auctions.
